Who lost fish in the heatwave

I lost 1 goldhead comp.

I did small regular water changes, topping up with cold water. Also added extra aeration to tang tanks, which definitely prevented further deaths.

I only have one tank nowadays but I suffered greatly one miserably hot day a few years ago.

This time I lost my female curviceps :(

I had just convinced myself to try to raise her next batch of fry as well.

Bugger.

Geez Yanke that really is a big loss, perhaps its time to look into a chiller? Was looking into this myself

as I'm not keen on losing WC fish due to such high temps...

When down south for a day trip to escape the heat, came home and all my Tangs been wiped out

Whole colony of T. Ikola of 17 (some F1 from Ned)

8 Red Moliro

A Trio of Ventralis Chituta

5 F1 Dhonti from Laurie

8 Leptos Malasa

4 adult Leleupi Longior

4 adult Regani

6 juvies N. cylindricus

a trio of E. yellow

a trio of Xenos

4 calvus (from Peter Ng)

4 gold comps

a pair of gold occie

around 10 multies and similis

The only Tangs that survived are 2 adult cuckoo catfish.

Amazingly, all electric yellow juvies and a colony of demasoni are survived.

Malawis are coping better than Tang

I will need to restock so will be looking out for good fish again. I will also need to invest in a chiller as well, can't risk it again.

Suprisingly my outside tanks were 2 degs cooler than the ones in the house. Got away with only loosing 6 sunspot fry and a rainbow that jumped out. Didnt sleep for 48 hours doing waterchanges and cycling ice through the tanks.

The hobby has taken a big hit with all the losses iv heard about i know of atleast 12k worth of losses, mostly tangs and especially WC fish seemed to fair the worst. My trophs hit 36, got them down to 32 and watched them spawn. Tough little buggers tank bred trophs.

My tank temp went up to 34 degrees...

4 Electric Yellows

4 Zebras

1 Demasonii

1 Mpanga

2 Red Ruben Peacocks

All gone :(

Now looking at chillers as the place i am staying gets really hot regardless of heat waves, that was just the icing on the cake...

hi

i looked at some chillers and what i need it for is to move from tank to tank

and for a good 1 you are looking at about $1200 i can get a a/c for that room for about $700

and it will do all my tanks in there at the same time

i have 21 tanks in there so a chiller will not do what i want

if i had only 1 or 2 tanks yes it will but not when i have to move it around to get all the tanks

by the time i get to the last tank i have to start all over again

so i am thinking of a a/c for the room

have to ask the wife u know how it go's please please can i have 1 lol

I'm sorry to hear about all the losses! It is gut-wrenching when that happens.

I had a SA dwarf cichlid biotope get cooked a few years ago while I was away on Holiday and a heat wave struck. I was devistated at just the 1 tank being killed off.

I hope it doesn't hit the hobby too hard in these Post-GFC times.

I spoke to soon - I also lost another comp and a calvus.

I feel lucky when I see some who have lost so many of there fish - it's awful.

I have several tanks and temp ranged from 34 to 36 degrees.

Here's hoping that the temp stays as is at the moment.
