Hongi have the 3 to 4 chevron like stripes across their head, a red blaze dorsal with no blue in the dorsal spines and a rich deep violet (not blue) hue to their body. Also displays with a black stripe across the anal and sometimes pectoral fins. I too fear that it is a cross Cheers Aline

Eddie Salita
I'm not a mbuna guru, but the red top males I have kept in the past always liked a bit of killin. They have a bit more oomph than most..... I think highly agressive would be a good description for them..... Breeding dress just means breeding colours. Would give a btter indication of his species if he was fully coloured..... hth Jason

ViS
Tangerine zebras (estherae "metangula"), are peach coloured in both males and females, so that's out of the question. Not a cobwe either. Here are pics of a male rtbb in standard dress and semi - breeding dress, and the third is one pulled from the net. I'm still a bit worried by the peach undertones in your original pics. A rtbb should be a solid blue and black. It's the closest match I can come up with, but certainly don't rule out a cross. Whatever happens, you can never use him to breed. CThompson
The problems lies not with the fish, but with the fish keeper who kept him with inappropriate tank mates. Put him with other Mbuna – problem solved! Craig
