Nothing against the photographer or the pic - I am unsure of what you have but it certainly is not a Lab. hongi. Hongi have the 3 to 4 chevron like stripes across their head, a red blaze dorsal with no blue in the dorsal spines and a rich deep violet (not blue) hue to their body. Also displays with a black stripe across the anal and sometimes pectoral fins.

I too fear that it is a cross confused.gifconfused.gif

Great pics smile.gif

Still definitely 100% not a hongi laugh.gif

I'd still say rtbb zeb. Would be good to see him in breeding dress to confirm.

I'm not a mbuna guru, but the red top males I have kept in the past always liked a bit of killin. They have a bit more oomph than most..... I think highly agressive would be a good description for them.....

Breeding dress just means breeding colours. Would give a btter indication of his species if he was fully coloured.....

Tangerine zebras (estherae "metangula"), are peach coloured in both males and females, so that's out of the question.

Not a cobwe either. no.gif

Here are pics of a male rtbb in standard dress and semi - breeding dress, and the third is one pulled from the net.

I'm still a bit worried by the peach undertones in your original pics. A rtbb should be a solid blue and black. It's the closest match I can come up with, but certainly don't rule out a cross. Whatever happens, you can never use him to breed.

I can see by those pictures why u think its an RTBB

specially with the simular colourings so could possibly

when i was in the store investigating i had a look at the RTBB and they were very dull in colour almost grey i guess the colour comes in them later

and since ever since i got him he's had the same colouring it looked alot like the hongi which was there and had same colouring even at there early age

so more then likely a cross

since it did come out of a mixed tank not sure what was else in the tank tho

and i wont be breeeding like i know how heheh anyways

The problems lies not with the fish, but with the fish keeper who kept him with inappropriate tank mates. angry.gif

Put him with other Mbuna – problem solved! thumb.gif
