300Magnum
I will be away for 5 days after Xmas and have no one to feed my fish. i know the adults will be ok, but what about fry and juvies? Has anyone left the smaller ones without food for 4 to 5 days?
humbug
I use feeder blocks in fry tanks of African cichlids if I need to leave them for any more than a couple of days. I have had disasters using autofeeders, but no issues with the blocks. Ive used a variety of brands, but are currently using Sera. I understand that the plaster based blocks may cause issues with ph in soft water tanks, but Ive had no problems in higher ph african tanks. Alex
Healthy adult fish will be fine. Fry and juvies, probably not a great idea. Get an autofeeder or get someone to come around on day 2-3 and give your fish a feed.
fishdance
What size are the fry and what food are you feeding? A super simple DIY feeder for dry fry food is a container (with the food) with a small hole drilled in bottom. Attach a mobile phone on vibrate alert and call it when you want to feed the fish. You can feed as long or as often as you want. ALDI have Telstra network SIM cards for $5. No credit is needed on the SIM to call it. Do recommend you practice this well before you leave home. Ageofaquariums
Might upset some people, but I add some cherry shrimp to fry tanks for them to hunt. Otherwise I am a big fan of the Eden auto feeders, might not have the awesome programming features of the Hydor, but I love how it pops out! Ducksta
Put a bucket of tank water outside in the sun with some old tank lids or ceramic ornaments in it. Aglae will grow. Put the algae covered bits in the tank before you go.
