Josh
Hi all,Due to unforeseen circumstances I have to rebuild my fish room. My old shed has decided it would like to fall apart so I am going all out and building a new shed, this means I also need to re-build the room. This is going to be the third and final time I do this, one all out effort to get it perfect.Hopefully buy the time its all done the room will have the features I have always wanted. The room is still going to be quite small, aprrox 3.8m x 2.4m, will have in floor drainage and a water change system. I will also have 900l water storage capacity and a fully plumbed refill system for the tanks. As always all tanks will be run on air driven filters, either sponge or side drops.I haven't sorted out the exact tank layout yet but I will be only using the existing tanks I have but will probably need new racks to suit the new configuration.I dont have any pictures yet. but I will as this goes along. I have a few videos of the current room

green troll
Sounds expensive....lol Less hoses on the ground the better ay. Good luck with ut mate sounds like fun. Whats ur ideas for heating/cooling
Josh
Should be fixed now Chris.I do wish I could blame the wind for the shed, but it's more likely to many years of the kids kicking balls against it. It would ne nice to have the insurance company pay for it. The 10 grand would be much better in my pocket.Green troll, cooling won't be an issue when the room is insulated and I am still looking at ideas for heating. I have always just used a collum heater and that has worked well, but tends to always be under my feet.
DFishkeeper
Hi Josh,If your space is limited and you want to be able to store water change water in your fishroom, have a read of the thread below :http://www.qldaf.com/forums/general-aquarium-discussion-19/winter-water-changes-fishroom-~-solution-66333/It outlines what I did in my fishroom and it works a treat. The guy at Abber tanks custom makes a tank to any size you want it, so you can make maximum use of your available space. I've just gone through my second winter with mine in place and it has been a godsend.Cheers, Doug
rosco
Annoying but exciting. I will most likely strike a deal with the misses re heating cooling. I but her a new couch and I get a split system inverter. The only way to go I feel now.I look forward to the progress shots.
Link2Hell
Doug your 100% about the available spacewe did a similar thing at an LFS I worked at where we had10" deep tanks running the length of the stands that heldwater for the water change of the tier of tanks underneatheach one so you drained from an outlet on the sump andthen just dropped the fresh conditioned water inthen turn on the water - ball cocks on the storage tanks would close at the required level - turn off water then addthe conditioning agentsthe other area of wasted space is the corners of the roomif the stand doesn't butt to the wall here you could look at big diameter PVC pipe on end with a ball cock valve at thetop and a tap at the bottom that can be plumbed to a pump
DFishkeeper
Thanks Chris, no point having all this grey hair and wrinkles if I haven't learnt something along the way Cheers, Doug
Josh
Thanks for the link DougI am lucky enough to have plenty of space in the room I am building for my needs. I have allowed for a bench, 700mm wide, across the end of the room. Under this bench is where my water storage will be.I do like the idea of the verticle large diameter pipes in the corners and I also have access to some through work. markfnq
are you going stud or block externals ?its surprising how economical blockwork is , quick ,finished product inside and out , great insulation, strongall services easily hidden , never any rot or water problems. you can use second hand windows and make openings to suit.being a bricklayer of course i would go that way.!!!!!!!!!!! good luck with the build cheers mark
Josh
Mark,It will have stud walls inside a colorbond shed.Chris, I have many more cool toys, joys of working for a construction company. pity the mini excavator and tipper are being used else where. That would have saved me plenty of time and labor.
Ged
You made short work of the old shed. Nice clean slate to work with for the new shedHow times have changed. We used pull sheds like these apart, burn al the timber on a bonfire in the back yard and smash the asbestos sheeting and throw it into the back of a trailer and take it to the tip. It may not bode well for me down the track but back then we didn't know the ramifications.
Josh
I would have loved to burn the timber. I miss the old days of bonfires on cracker night.I can remember breaking pieces of asbestos of dads shed to mark up hand ball courts and to use as frisbees! Ged
Playing brandings against the shed and crackIng the asbestos sheeting with wet tennis balls. Every yard had an incinerator.
Josh
Update time. The slab went down a few weeks back and due to a fishy weekend trip to Canberra today was the first chance I have had for working on the shed. Got it along this far, but with bad weather forecast for tommorrow, I probably wont get much more done this weekend.Josh

Josh
Chris,There is a drain hole in the center back under the ladder in the last two photos and I have another one in the back bay on teh left hand side that the racks and sink will drain to. The room will only take up the back 1/3rd of the shed, I have plans for another toy for the front part!Rosco,we had a ball down there. It was an eye opener seeing all the different set-ups and species. We didnt see the same speceies twice all weekends. We also spent some money at a shop on the way home, I cant remember what it was called.Green troll,Insulattion will be via Batts. I used foam last time and although it was cheap, it was a pain to get rid of when I pulled the old shed down.
