Hi guys

Below are some updated pics of my 10 foot Malawi. I've had some fish growing out in the sump and I'll be introducing them when they beef up a bit to the main tank.

Thanks for the comments guys.

The tank is a 10x2x2 foot with a 6ftx18inchx1ft sump.

The Buccos are my favorite and my focus has been to breed them. So far, 2 of the 5 females have held but swallowed the fry after a few days. The male is approaching 1ft long, he's a beauty. If I get any fry I will let you know and bring some to the Cichlid society meetings.

I keep the largest of my growouts in an area in the sump as I've got a couple of tanks in the garage full of rostratus, spilo and dolphin fry at various stages of development. So any fish I put in there are strong enough to swim away from the pumps - never had one stick yet.

The background is made up of 1 6ft panel and a four ft panel. They are just resting in there with no silicon, so I can get behind there and clean it if I need to. I also have set up a small pump that pushes water from behind the background to eliminate any dead zones. The fish can get behind there aswell if they want to, which is good if there is a holding female or a fish that gets harrassed. The spilo spent most of her time behind the background when holding and I got a successful spawn a couple of days ago.

Regarding the stocking list, I have the following in there at present:

Main tank (24 fish in total)

5 female, 1 male Buccochromis Rhoadesii

1 male 1 female Champsochromis Spilohynchus

1 male, 2 female Cyrtocara Moorii

1 female Fossorochromis Rostratus

1 male Aulonacara Maylandi

1 male Otopharynx Sp. 'Silver Torpedo'

1 male, 1 female Sciaenochromis fryeri ´Maleri Island´

1 male, 1 female Protomelas Steveni ''Taiwan Reef''

1 male Cheilochromis Euchilus

1 male Nimbochromis Fuscotaeniatus

1 male Labidochromis Caeruleus

1 female Maylandia Estherae

2 Synodontis Ocellifer

Sump area - small fish growing out

1 female Champsochromis Spilohynchus

2 female Cheilochromis Euchilus

1 female, 1 male Lichnochroms Acuticeps

6 Fossorochromis Rostratus (sex unknown)

1 male Dimidiochromis Kiwinge

1 Labidochromis Caeruleus (sex unknown)

1 Maylandia Estherae (sex unknown)

1 male, 1 female Cynotilapia afra "Cobue"

And in the garage tanks, I've got 30 Fossorochromis Rostratus, 60 Cyrtocara Moorii, 50 Champsochromis Spilohynchus and 15 Sciaenochromis fryeri ´Maleri Island´, some fairly small but at varying stages of development.

Hi mate

I have a few rostratus left from 2 different spawns. You're welcome to PM me if you're interested. A couple at the 5cm size and numerous ones at the 3-4 cm size.

I have had 2 spawns from the dolphins recently. The larger are only 1-2cm and the small ones are below 1cm.

The spilos have just been born. I'll keep you posted of their progress.

Thanks guys

I've added a subdominant male for the buccos, now the ratio is 2m, 5f. The subbie male is still quite small, but growing rapidly.

I've also added a large Protomelas Similis that I picked up the other day

G'day Chris

I've only got about 10 left now from the most recent spawn and they've grown to 4cm. Currently they are in with a pair of Otopharynx sp. 'Silver Torpedo' that I am trying to breed.

I'll be going to the Feb meeting as per usual and can bring some in. I've got to make some tank room for the next dolphin & spilo babies.

Regards, Rob
