Kribbie
Hi all, My friend has owned this fish for quite a long time, but he wasn't really sure about its scientific name though. Can anyone please help? Thanks! Heidi
zerospel
I think those are Cichlasoma spilurum or Archocentrus spilurum or whatever else spilurum they've been calling them common name: blue eye cichlid
D6C1
mate, thats a nice looking fish. How big do they grow? Im guessing American?
hoges
Yep I'd go with Cichlasoma spilurum or Blue eyed cichld - i'm certainly not an expert on the matter tho! To answer your question toufic, yes it is an american cichlid, as far as I know they originated in Guatemala. I think they grow to around 5". Kribbie
Thanks guys! I've done a search on Cichlasoma spilurum, but found that there's another species that looks 90% similar to my friend's fish. It's called Archocentrus sajica and it also got blue eyes as well. benno
Yeah they are beautifull the sajicas. Go the americans. I thought he may have had a nice hump by now being that size. Benno
Ducksta
My initial gut call was sajica from a quick peek at work today. Now I'm undecided, but I probably am still leaning that way... It's been a while since I've kept (or looked into keeping) the mid sized Central's...
kevkoi
Kribbie, I'll confirm it..... Archocentrus sajica Does have the "blue eye", but no cake... not the blue eye cichlid, A. spirulum.
anchar
I agree that they have the "t" bar of the A. sajica but the red finnage is more charateristic of A. septemfasciatus....I just don't remember A. sajica having this .....if I were to guess I would say a cross between the two maybe? merjo
mezzacam
I would have said Sajica... Looking at the 2 ones i have... 1 Has plenty of red through it's fins and has the wonderful blue eyes... But... i'm not a pro on them.
