noyd
This fish looks like a Frontosa, I seen them at my pet shop, anyone know something about them? Are they just like Frontosa's? whats the difference etc.they were tiny as hell for $13.
Ant
They are called Neolamprologus Sexfasciatus, they are nasty little fellas apparently. They are sometimes known as 'poormans frontosa' but apart from the slight resemblance they are nothing like them. Here is a profile on the gold variant: http://www.sydneycichlid.com/profiles/nsexfasciatusgold.html. As you can see they only grow about 15cm max.Anthony
anchar
Hi, Maybe they are L. tretocephalus. That price seems too cheap for blue L. sexfasciatus which are not common.merjo
Mr.Lee
They are called Neolamprologus Tretocephalus. These fish are Very aggressive to eachother and other species.heres a link to an article : http://www.bostonaquariumsociety.org/html/...ian/jim0999.htmHTHlee

Ant
Oh yea, i didn't think of N.Tretocephalus, i think your right there :D, well do a google search anyway and you'll find a bit of info hopefully.Anthony
Ant
I think as long as they are by themselves they will be OK in a 2fter, with a bristlenose or two :DAnthony

HamzaLH
: u sure a 2ft is enough for 2 of them? Im no pro at all, but i'd think a 2ft is a bit small, i've heard they are very cheeky little fish ... just my thought ...Hamza :
noyd
theres about 8 of them plus about 15 other fish in a small 2' at the shop, I shouldn't have a big problem keeping a few.
Ant
Well a do you have 1ft for each fish in your tank? probably not!!! so 2 ft for 8/12cm fish isn't that bad.Anthony:
trofius
:D Ok people, QUESTION: what is the difference between tretocephalus and sexfasciatus????the answer is trets have 5 main blue bars you dont count the bar over the eye!!! sexfasciatus has 6 main bars and the half eye bar,Also trets have 3 bars under their dorsal fins and sexfasciatus have 4. hope this helps with any confusion. :D
noyd
anyone have pics of this fish where I can see them fully grown? It'll be easier to compare them to a Frontosa this way, I have only seen small ones
E4G13M4N
Never compare how many fish are in a tank in a shop compared to what should be kept in a 2' tank to keep their health longterm.. Fish are only housed in shop short term and not long term if all goes to plan Plus overcrowding in shop tanks in some cases can help stop aggression between siblings..IMO a 2' tank is too small for trets as you are more likely to finish up with 1 dominant male .. noyd
how many fronts could you keep in a 4' tank?along with some other fish...
E4G13M4N
That would depend on how many and size of fish, and tank dimensions a 4x2x2 will hold more than a standard 4'tank
noyd
it will be a standard 4'im planning on 3/4 fronts.. and some other small calm fish
Ant
But what if you have 1 male 1 female Mark? Surely 2 fish isn't over crowding? (i understand that noyd was inquiring about putting several in a 2 ft and not just 2) i am just curious :DAnthony
E4G13M4N
Depending on size of fronts, while they are young the standard tank should be ok ..If its intending to be a breeding colony a 4x2x2 would be better for 4 fronts, any more than 4 then a 6x2x2 would be needed
noyd
cool, once i have the fronts in the 4', can u give me names of other fish i can mix with them? i dont want too many, maybe 3/4 more along with the frontsclown loaches, bristlenose etc
E4G13M4N
Hi Anthony :D 2 trets in a 2' just not enough room IMO they can be very agro even too their own kind and a 2' tank leaves no space to run and hide ..Granted you could raise fry in the 2' short term but eventually more space is needed.. anchar
Hi, I totally agree with E4G13M4N. Most LFS stock their tanks at a higher rate than is acceptable for fish in the long term. Two fully grown trets in a 2' is not viable and in the end you will only be left with one.merjo
