BEST: coral sand

BEST VALUE: crushed marble

shell grit looks kinda poxy IMO as a substrate on its own (at least the shellgrit I have used/seen) It is best used in filters, or moxed through sand or gravel for a very natural look.

G'day

I reckon for looks go with coral, but ethically I reckon you shouldn't!

Best is crushed marble. It looks quite good and does a good job with buffering. It also looks a lot better than shell grit.

Shell grit seems a little sharp as well so I tend to not like cleaning filters that have it in there, also if on the aquarium floor it may injure the fish and/or their slime coating. It also tends to look a little dirty at times.

If you ring up any gravel and/or sand supplier (should be heaps down your way) they will most likely sell 25kg bags for about $11.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Alan.

Travolta

Lots of Bubbles in Unanderra sells crushed marble in 25kg bags for $50 or $55. (I feel a bit expensive)

I was told though it will only buffer to about 7.2 or 7.5 cant remeber which, can anyone who uses this clarify?

Otherwise try M J Rowles or small loads etc (local lanscape suppliers)
