3D background with holes in it

Hi guys, I just bought and installed a 3D "crevice"

Background.

I have siliconed the back and around all the sides completely but have just noticed tiny pin holes in the background meaning water can get in behind it.

I am a little worried about what could happen if a bit of food or something was too get behind it.. Quite possibly an ammonia spike?

Does anybody else have these sort of backgrounds with holes in them?

I have seen people turn the back into a trickle filter. Others have plaved apower head behind so watet doesn't go stagnant.

No matter how well you think you have sealed the edges, either straight away or some time down the track, water will get in.

So, plan from this with what you do.

The only time water from behind a background will really come into the body of the water in the tank is when water changing, as the water level in front and behind the background will stay even.

So, if taken from the point of view that you will not be able to prevent the background from filling up with water, what I did with the tank I have a background in was to plumb it with return water from one of the filters. Not a huge flow rate, but enough to prevent any issues that may (or may not) happen. I also filled the backgroung up with course filter wool to provide a house for bacteria. The water that was organised to go back to the tank via the background was filtered three times before returning to the tank, but even so, I expect it has gotton dirty over the years. It does not seem to have any negative affects either way.

Mine has plenty of gaps behind it for water to get in because it was super distorted when I bought it and I really struggled to getting it to sit flat against rear glass when fitting it up, I was initially concerned about water parameter problems.

7 months on and no parameter swings to speak of, if your experience is like mine, you probably need not worry.
