Ant
Underpowered heater, faulty thermostat, insufficient insulation in the room your aquarium sits. All possabilities.

mathobes
Is your temperature rising? If you have faulty heaters you are going to end up with cooked fish. If the temp isnt rising your heater is just keeping a steady temp because it's cold. What brand is it?
mathobes
Whoops. Just realized you double posted and I replied in the wrong one.

mathobes
If it's cold where you live it will be heating alot of the time. Depends on what size and brand you have. The smaller the heater the more it has to work.

cyber_crimes
What size heater & what size tank? Sound like the heater is too small and working hard to maintain temp. Edited August 17, 2010 by cyber_crimes
Batty
If you adjust to say 24C does it go off, if yes then it's just in a cold place.
