Andrew
It's a female of some sort of Metriaclima. My guess is Metriaclima hajomaylandi. More thoughts? Andrew.
steje008
Thanks Andrew, hope someone else can confirm your thoughts. How can you tell its a female?
Andrew
A combination of lack of fin development, lack of intense egg spotting and reasonably drab colour. But please - anyone who doesn't agree or has a different idea, venture forth. Here is a pic I found while surfing - it is a typical female hajomaylandi. dobbin4
What size is it, looks 5cm ?, can you check with who you got it from? Top fins look female Bottom maybe young male?? Does the barring fade? lighter / darker. Agree,,, http://www.bigskycichlids.com/Met_hajomaylandi.htm Andrew & Chris that i cant think of anyother than a Hajo, not a rusty I think. Or Greshakei?.Lovely fish when larger. http://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles/afric...buna/100048.asp Also try putting the fish in the search up top right and you will get some photo's to help you. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=
Link2Hell
Andrew +1 looks like a Hajo female to me also maybe a trip back to where she bought it might help Chris
Mbuna
i'm leaning more towards Iodotropheus sprengerae although a better pic of the head would make it easier to id. hajo females tend to have thinner barring and more of them.
Andrew
It's a bit more yellow than your average Iodotropheus sprengerae, but you're right, it could very well be one. Some more head shots would be awesome. I've rethought it and hajos do not have dorsals like that, whereas rusty cichlids do... Interesting... Mbuna
looking at it again, it does look alot like an M.aurora - has the right barring and slight yellow head with blue bar between eyes and blue tinge in the body.
