Adam_J
my tropical hobby started with 1 3ft oversized tank.... which cost me an arm and a leg to set up from new. but now with the help of mum and dad doing the rounds of garage sales... i have (as of this morning) four 3ft tanks , three 2ft tanks and possibly a couple more when mum and dad get back... also expecting a 4ft tank to become available in the next week or 2.... all at a cost of.... well nothing , except for the cost of my original setup ... the rest have been free... now i have an addiction. so i'm dividing off my car shed and building an insulated fish room. will be cool

Link2Hell
Adam you now have the "Sickness" welcome Definitely need that trip to the Gold Coast now Give the new 2nd hand tanks a clean with bleach and a good rinse then leave them to UV in the sun for a week removes any surprise nasties when you get started using them how many people have taken over part of or all the garage to use as a fishroom ahhhh it's all part of the sickness think out a design for the fishroom that includes power points, drainage, water in source (a sink is handy), rack positioning so you have enough room to work on the tanks comfortably, a position to fit a fan to circulate air to keep all tank temps similar, insulation and sisal sheeting, wall sheeting and possibly a postion for a small air con in the future if things get too warm in summer it just gets bigger and bigger Chris
mathobes
I'm new to this "sickness" as well. Been doing it for about a year and I have a 3 footer Display and a two footer blue hap breeder. Coming soon is a six foot for my display and another 3 foot for breeding kribs. Then the old three footer will be new home for my blue haps and my two footer left unused (until I find something to put in it). Plus my two 1 foot fry tanks. It's crazy how intensly I got into the hobby, I love it!
dogboy
yep multiple tank syndrome strikes again, i started with an old 3 footer 4 years ago. now have a fish room with 24 tanks in it ( from 50L fry tank to a 500L 7 foot) only one display tank in the house 8 x 2.5 x 2.5 and that was a frebie! I have not had an electricity bill in 17 months, there is a fault in the system and they can't fix it, maximun they can charge me is 12 months supply, I have been in contact with them several times, they have told me they are still working on it, but not to hold my breath. probably cheaper to give me free electricity than demolish the house to fix the problem.
