ziad
Its a female. They often have some small bristles.
brucem
I always thought that if they had bristles just around the edge of their nose they were a female, but is they had bristles extend up along the centre of their nose (towards their eyes) it was a male. But like you, I'm no expert on these things. Bruce
YAL05T
Mate, if ANY bristle start to appear along the centre line of the head it is a male, regardless of body shape. I had a "female" for 2 years who one day started to show small nubs along the centre line, "she" is now 8 months or so on fanning "her" 3rd batch of eggs. If you can provide a pic from side on, or just have a look-see yourself for any indication of growth I would say male. And remember what an "expert" is, X is an unknown quantity and a spurt is a little drip Cheers, Brett
YAL05T
Just noticed the length of the second set of fins which appear quite elongated, another sign of possible male as they are longer for fanning eggs in Ancistrus ssp. generally.
YAL05T
3rd in a row, just had a look through your photobucket pics. This fish is 100% male. I would bet my breeding colony on it, based off this pic http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/ad224/l...n_/DSC_0196.jpg

dobbin4
How often do we think / hope female? Then he's on the eggs? Looks male to me. Last photo tells you for sure. Brett, & Luarie have it right.
chorrylan
I've had males take years before they developed bristles and have some bristly females but they only have horizontal bristles around their lip-line. I've *never* had a female with bristles standing vertically on the upper surface of here face as in pic 196.
