Mattzilla
first pick looks like Geophagus Altifron 'Tocantins'.... great shot of Leuco spitting sand...hard to capture
mcsx
deff not a tocantins notice no lateral spot, the barring is different, higher body profile, tail has round spots and does not bar like tocantins, also this fish seems to have a nuchal hump in all fish amongst other things. i have a group of 7 now as i purchased waz's aswell. i beleive they are either "Manaus" or "Rio Negro" could of even "Rio Curua" thanks mark~

Definately not "Rio Negro" shape is wrong and Negro altis seem to have quite a lot od red colour.
Link2Hell
The first pic looks like the original Surinamensis form we have had in the hobby since the early 80's There was never any locale details but we have always thought them to be Manaus as the early exports were local caught species from the exporters from information we could piece together on spot tailed varients that were mouthbreeders rather than delayed mouthbrooders these grow to 30cm size without the fin extensions and have 2 small mid body spots when juveniles seemed to go out of favour when the Brachybranchus (black throats) arrived and were found easier to spawn and grew to a smaller size then the gates opened for other forms to be imported and Geo lovers greatest fears appeared ............ the lack of correct ID of the species by not only importers but also by sellers keep the varients true, ask the species question if buying and push the point of correct labelling when selling Gotta love the Geo's
mcsx
yeh nah i knew they were thought to be manaus just i had my doubts and thought a few others fit the field too. but anyways. thanks for the comment. cheers Mark~
killiguy
Ive been after leucosticta or jurupari juvenilles for more than a year but havent found a source down here in Vic.Any way I can source some of these elsewhere??
mcsx
hopefully you find something, someone has gotta be willing to ship, i guess depends on numbers, get enough people together that want leuco's in melb/vic. someone would ship if the price is right. Thanks Mark~
Link2Hell
Killiguy thats the problem there is usually no more than 3 breeders that supply some species nationally at one time but VIC was always one of the best places to source Leuco's and any of the soft water species from Boots n all may be able to help you as I think he used to have Leuco's so try a PM you could also contact the VCS or EDAS ........ use Yellow pages & phone around .......... troll the different aquarium forum classifieds around the country Good luck

Sarg
Nice fish mcsx, and nice photo's too. Don't you hate looking around for that perfect piece of wood . I'm setting up a six footer with Geos and I think I have found mine, though due to it's size and the position of the tank brace on top it won't go in as I wanted but i'll see how I go.
