kilroy
Kinda looks like petrified wood. What type of rocks do you have there? Shane
Bruce
It looks like a rock called schist. It's from New Zealand. Bruce
anchar
It is mostly gneiss (pronounced 'nice'). Gneiss is a high grade metamorphic rock. This means that when granite has been subjected to heat and pressure, it becomes gneiss. The tank looks so much better in the "flesh"...I wish the camera (or useless operator) could capture it better. Bruce, there is a lot of schists in Australia too....in fact, the rock that hasn't had as much heat and pressure applied to it is quite schistose. BaZ
That tank doesn't look schisty at all. In fact it looks quite gneiss Top job as usual Merjo

kilroy
Does anyone know if the Gneiss has any buffering qualities?
dempsey
Nice tank. Its a nice dark setup. what type of substrate is that? And what species will u keep in it? Karl.
anchar
Gneiss has no buffering capacity..it is prdominantly quartz, feldspars and biotite. Yes it is strong enough...those crates are very strong. Not sure what to put in it yet...I just liked the rock Probably throw my S. tinanti group in it to grow out. I think they'd look cute boucing from rock to rock. Andrea
