ViS
I still have no idea whether I have males, females, or a mixture. All fish are between 8 and 10cm.
MikeWs Fish
They all seem like girls with the exception of '1' which may be a boy. Then again ive only been keeping them for a few months. Id be interested in what other people have to say.
Teamsherman
In my eyes, it looks like you've got five daughters there ViS. Although, im a bit 50/50 on number 1. Either way, beautiful looking bristlies mate!!
ViS
Hmmmm.... Matthew is not going to be happy...... Kinda wish I hadn't sold Gianniz my only definite male now
MikeWs Fish
I've got an ~9cm male that I'd happily swap for one of those girls
wormboy
Sorry Vis, more questions, not answers Just because I am having the same problems myself , do any of them have bristles up the ridge of the nose or are they only as they are shown in the pics? Also all you breeders out there, are the branching bristles on No 3 of any significance or can the girls have them too? -worm-
Phenomena
Looks like all girls. If u wanna swap, I have a 10cm male.
MikeWs Fish
IMHO 3 and 4 look like 2 big phat ripe females. See how the body shape is very round? Thats a good sign if you are wanting females. I have a 12-14cm female that looks more like a footvall than catfish
ViS
I'd happily swap 2 or 5 for a similar sized male. I might be going to Sydney airport this saturday or next if that helps anyone. Otherwise I'd be happy to meet someone halfway on the F3 freeway (at Ourimbah). PM me if this helps. Thanks for the replies so far
Cuong
I'm having the same problem at the moment. Hopefully one of the 'male' peppermints has just been shaving every so often.
FrontyKing
Hi Vis, I'd also say #1 is a boy and the rest look like girls. HTH Nick.
Hypo Zebra
To be more precise need to know how big and how old if they are young fish they could be all males.
ViS
As stated, between 8 and 10cm. Probably 2 years old.

novafishy
In the fourth photo, regarding fish no.3, its eye seems to be a bit red. I've read somewhere this is a sign of something, but I forget. Anyone know?
ViS
Possessed by the devil? I thought the green vomit was just spirulina
novafishy
Haha! I think i read somewhere the redness has something to do with the ammonia levels in the water. Higher levels of ammonia for longer periods of time will cause the redness to eventuate.
Hypo Zebra
If they are that age and size they are all females no if buts or maybes. I have been keeping and breeding this species for 4 years so I have got a little bit of a an idea.
wormboy
Cool, but which characters did you use to tell? or is an intuition thing? -worm-
ViS
Well I made an interesting discovery last night I have 6 peppermints And guess what, the 6th one that must have hidden last time has LOTS of bristles on top of his nose!!! Same size fish, so I'm pretty sure the rest are girls (except possibly number 1 which is a bit smaller than the rest.) I'm still going to swap one of the girls for a boy so I get at least 2 boys. gianniz
hehe i think and this is just a ruff guess, you have bunch of queers I think number 3 is a definite girl, due to its head and body shape... rest of them only time will tell, but strangely enough if one of them is a male then surely one of them would have sprouted those bristley... given all of them are nice and smooth I would say congratulations you have 5 daughters
