DOOBIE Posted December 9, 2003 Share Posted December 9, 2003 Just a couple of basic questions about mini reef systems,i've never owned one and all help would be appreciated. :rolleyes: 1-Can the heater be kept in the sump?2-How often should the filter media be cleaned/changed?3-What is the best way to do water changes?4-Do you still need to run an airstone or does the reef system airate the water?THANX Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Beardie Posted December 9, 2003 Share Posted December 9, 2003 Doobie,A heater(s) can be kept in a sump. Depending on the media it may have to be changed/cleaned. With my setup i have a coarse, green mesh type material followed by bio balls. Bio balls dont have to be changed, and either does the green mesh. As far as i know you dont need to add an airstone. With water changes i usually siphon water along with all the crap from the bottom of the tank out through my window into my garden and then add water into the sump to fill the tank back up.Hope this helps Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
