catcher
Is Slate ok to use in tanks for Africans? I want to get thin flat sheets and design a terrace like effect. Cheers glenn
novafishy
slate is fine. i use them in my tank, but just make sure you round off any sharp jagged edges. you could leave them in a bucket of water for a while to see if anything happens, but generally, like terracotta, they should be fine. Beardie
Yep slate if fine, Just make sure you try and get smooth ends/corners. The one problem with my slate is that everynow and then a fish will have a little cut from the sharp ends.
catcher
Hey Beardie, Is that just landscaping supply slate or roofing ? I want to do a couple of tower type formations, so I need it fairly thin to get the terrace look. What was the approx cost? by weight or piece Glenn

Gigitt
The only problem I can see if where the slate comes from. If you get above ground slate then you should soak it for a week and wash it thoughly. Slate usually has a mud/silt layer somewhere and this will dirty up the tank. If you get river slate then you should be fine.
