YeW
Hi Harry -One group from of any ONE of the following species would be fine.Julidochomis spp. (they are all good - and suitably sized)Neolamprologus multifasciatusNeolamprologus (Lamprologus) ocellatusNeolamprologus brevisHTH -
Exiledonmainstreet
Hi Harry. Another thing to think about is when you decide to upgrade your tank to a much larger one (we all eventually do :D ) you can still use the 2 footer for a quarantine/hospital tank. It's always wise to have one at the ready to acclimate new fish, and quarantine diseased/stressed ones. Good luck.
Mazimbwe
hmmm...what about L.freibergi??They are a small Mbuna and a nice little group with some rockwork could be housed in a 2ft. You can have a B/N that way, to help keep the glass clean. As far as the amount of maintenance I think that will depend more on your folk's and the filtration, than the fish.As long as they do not over-feed and and do the basic stuff(water-changes and gravel-vac, etc, etc) the hardy little Lab's should be fine.Get a Good canister, that is bigger than you need, for minimal maintenance or a AC300-500 if they don't mind the extra work of more frequent filter-cleaning.Something to consider.HTH
Mbuna
thanks guys, your replies are much appreciated i am stting the tank up for my folks up in queesland (cairns) so theirs not much to choose from although a little shop is opening up on the weekend which specialises in cichlids so i will check them out.the filtration consists of an undergravel filter with powerhead on the uplift tube and i have told them they will have to do a water change every 2 weeks or they will die!!! :o (this always gets people to do waterchanges  )thanks againHarry
Link2Hell
I think N.brichardi would fit in nice extended filaments on the fins and breed like rabbits, fry carewith no work to raise the fry which they could sell to the local LFS L2H
