Paulochromis
Got an Ocean Runner 3500 that I want to run in-line. When I tried a few years back, I noticed that the output assembly leaked, between the pump main casing and the push-in output "nozzle". I gave up. I've now torn the tank down and am in the process of setting it up again and thought I'd revisit this idea. Came across the user manual for the OR3500 and it suggested: "If the pump is operated as a stand alone device, the socket (17) should be glued into the pump housing using PVC glue (e.g.“Tangit“) (OR 3500 only)" I'm reading stand alone as "not submerged", sounds like it could be feasible after all. So I'm looking for glues/cements. Visited the local Bunnings, they had Protek Type P Green High Pressure PVC Cement but I'm guessing I would need Type Red Priming too, plus some kind of applicator. Seems like an clumsy solution for a one-off small job - what do I do with the remaining 2x100+ml of poison afterwards? I saw Selleys Aqua Fix and Plastic Fix, both two parters as well: primer as a pen and adhesive in a small tube; so much more convenient from an application and disposal/keep around point-of-view , but not sure how they compare from a functional perspective. Any ideas/suggestions?
pjmowens
Is it a slip fitting or threaded? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Paulochromis
Slip If it was threaded I would hope plumber's tape would work. Hence, glue.
Link2Hell
From the manual Pressure side: The pressure side can be connected with a flexible hose, using the hose fitting (15/16) included. This hose fitting must also to be fitted if the pump is used as a pure current pump. If the pump is operated as a stand alone device, the socket (17) should be glued into the pump housing using PVC glue (e.g.“Tangit“) (OR 3500 only) If the pump is used as return pump, it can be directly connected to PVC pipe. With the OR 3500 the socket is removed and the pipe glued directly into the pump using PVC glue.. If the pump is set up in this way, the pump head may not be less than 1 m. This method of plumbing gives the best results, see fig 1 (capacity). With all other pumps, a threaded connector has to be screwed on the pressure fitting of the pump. The relevant sizes are shown in Table 1. If a hard pipe is used for connecting the pumps, we recommend the use of a short section of flexible hose to avoid vibration. Paulochromis
Thanks Chris. So I can actually glue pipe directly in place of the socket? I guess that eliminates some of the "reduction". Time for a think about how I want to connect the pump to the rest of the tank's plumbing. Am using reinforced, transparent, flexible tubing ('Plutone') and had been planning the good old barbed connection with a Jubilee clip.
