Buccal
I've got two females, and one gets a egg tube exposed often.I've been searching for over ten months now for a male.My male jumped out during a power outage. They do need quite a bit of maturing till they spawn I found,,, would contribute to declining. malawi sand diver
Hi ChrisI had a colony a few years back and had 2 spawns after putting a lot of energy into trying to breed them. I found they are a timid fish that requires either a large (6-8 foot plus) tank as either species only or a combination with the most placid tankmates available. This is because the male constructs a large spawning pit and needs to be the dominant fish to do this. Explains partly why they are rare.At the time I had them, they were as rare as they are now. I have since parted with them but knew they would be in trouble as it is the type of fish that rely on a handful of people in Australia at any one time who would be serious enough to devote the energy to keep them here.Since then, I have seen fry available on queensland aquarium forum about 1-2 years ago from one spawn. Then the latest information I can give is I spoke to Meng from Keysborough Aquariums 6 months ago at the same time I got my exochochromis and he said he could get some in for me which I was considering. So it may be worth giving Meng a call to see if he can still get them.I am keeping their closely related cousin, Mylochromis Lateristriga Makanjilla at the moment, which are less specialized but still pretty cool.Regards, Rob
Cichlid_Boy
I was going to comment that they look similar to a Mylochromis, Rob.
Buccal
Do you guys reckon Lateristriga and Mchuse are the same fish. ???
malawi sand diver
The 2 variants of lateristriga here are makanjila and mchuse. Makanjila grows smaller and is the type I have kept and seen around over the last few years. I havent seen the mchuse around that grow larger and have darker melanin markings.
