Priscacara
I wouldnt have thought so but they are fairly soft plants so there is a possibility. My only catfish atm are cories and bristlenose in planted tanks and they dont bother the plants at all, I have a mix of swords, annubias and a couple of others. Nodalizer
If your pleco is eating those plants its either they have algae on them or he out of algae in the tank so is after another food source.I had a Sailfin 46cm long in a planted tank and he never touched those plants or others. I gave him plenty of algae pellets thou.

E4G13M4N
All depends on what type of cichlids the shop and you are referring too ??????
Nodalizer
Swords should be good for most cichlids. Thou apparently they like a lot of light, so it could be they are dying off, if this is the case just about anything will eat them.
