Nice photos of nice fish. I saw these fish years ages ago down my way and they are specular fish. I was trying to remember the name of the fish only on the weekend thanks for posting the photos.

cheers

Cool photos of nice cyps shon. In the second photo is that a sub-dominant male in the background or just a female? Left side.

Thanks for the lovely comments guys!

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I was at uni all day but I am always online on my phone only to browse the forum though

Lol I'm glad I helped solve that problem :)

Very nice! You did well to get good shots, my leptos would never stay still long enough for me so great job. Stunning yellow and blues.

Thanks, lol they're a bit slow after eating but they like to show off after being fed

I used flash on the camera to brighten up the fish

Although the images are not edited at all!

Hey Cody

Yeah I was told that, that is the second male but there is no yellow on the body/face or blue on the tail

Great looking fish. Your picture really captures the colour well.

Thanks mate

Great looking Kigoma's, one of my favourite cyp's.

Is that a yellow tail male in the background?

Are they wildcaught?

I never really liked cyps until I saw the huge colony they were a part of!

They're awesome fish

Yes that is what I was told is the second male, it does have yellow on the tail/end of the body rather than on the fin. Why is that?

They are adults from a breeding colony of a fish breeder here in Brisbane, but I never asked him if they're wild caught. If they're not wild caught then they'd definitely be imported at least

I'm having doubts about the ratio now

I've been watching them for about half an hour

There are others with colour (all have a bit of colour) and are displaying their fins

Would they be males?

Any strategies to sex them without venting?

The one in the background hasn't shown off at all

But there is another 2 or 3 that are doing it

One is defending some rocks - I see yellow in the dorsal

One is the big male in the picture

Another one is a small one with blue in the dorsal

My males all display colour, my females display no colour.

Give yours time to settle / mature and any males will display colour.

It won't be a bad thing to have a few more males in your colony.
