I finally know why my new ram won't eat anything I throw into the tank and getting so skinny in the past 2 weeks, she got skin flukes!!!!! Recently, I noticed that she scrape herself against leaves, rocks, driftwoods....and showed a "itchy" behaviour all the time~ I also noticed that her tail region has turned into cloudiness white patches today and got some inflamed tiny red spot on her tail!!

I have added 10ml of Promthyasul into my 40L tank few days ago, but it showed no change at all and even get worse! I have just did some water changes and added 2.5ml of Sterazin since this drug is target on treating body flukes....am I doing the right thing? please give me some advice on what to do in order to save my little ram? please help~~~~

Here is her pic that took few days ago, she is so much skinny than this pic.....won't eat anything~

Melafix is your best shot.... try it it's a natural treatment and it's made for stuff like that.

i had a jack dempsey with an open wound where you can see the meat...lol

i added melafix for a week and just like nothing happened....

remember take any activated carbon while using the treatment...

nice fish you have there.... wink.gif

i hope it gets better

good luck

Thanks aymen! The Melafix sounds like magic! But I couldn't found it in a LFS, so I just gave her an hour long water bath in concentrated Sterazin instead, then put her back into the tank and add some Sterazin again to see if it works or not...I did that this morning and the fish seems look better now, hasn't scrape herself on ojects anymore~ Hope that it won't be reinfected again..... cool.gif

Thankyou for your advice anyway!

Cheez~

Hopefully she starts eating again soon. She is a really nice looking fish.

Melafix is a good general purpose medicine but I think the specialised medicine that you are using for flukes (Sterazin) is better in this circumstance

Hope he recovers for you. Love my Rams.

Also may like to check your water parameters. Make sure nice and soft and acidic. In these conditions less bugs etc to contend with, which is why dwarf cichlids are sensitive to bugs.

Ps. She is a definite he.

Good luck

Stephen

I'd certainly use Sterazin rather than Melafix; so far my record with Melafix hasn't been good. sadsmiley02.gif

OTOH, Sterazin has been effective in getting rid of Argulus and it's ilk; may take some time to fully heal, even though the parasite is dead.

Thanks guys for the opinions~ smile.gif Now the fish looks great in condition! Hasn't scrape anymore and gradually starting to eat some sinking pellets that I throw into the tank. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Yea....now I'm sure that my ram is actually a he! Thanks Gingerbeer~ LOL.gif

Actually, I've got another male ram that looks even prettier than the one in this post, no wonder why they always chasing each other around the tank....it is because they are both males! laugh.giftongue.gif He has more blue spots on the body and the tail than this one, and he was also used to be the leader of the group while he was still in a LFS, so taht's why I bought it back home to "breed" with "her". Hahahahaaa~~~~ stupid me!!!! LOL.gif
