chevguy
Hydra. How the hell did it get in their and what does one do with it?
YeW
they probably came in with plants. They are harmless to most large fish. What else is in the aquarium? See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydra_%28genus%
chevguy
No plants in this tank, just driftwood and very minimal sand substrate and catfish fry. Nothing new added to tank. Thanks for the link. Interesting.

ozarowana
I've heard a couple of instances where these have appeared along with catfish... hmmmm I hear they are bad news for fry too.
malrift
Water hydra are bad news they are like freshwater anenomies they sting fish. These will kill and eat fry and will sting the side of larger fish causing lesions. The only thing I have found that kills these things outright is panacur 25 a wormer for sheep and cattle I used it at a dose of 10ml per 40litres however I would recomend removing fish as it is a suspension and will affect the gills of your fish. They will be gone in 2 days and you can clean your tank and rextart it. Mind you I did use panacur while the fish were in the tank with no ill affect but I WOULD NOT RECOMEND THIS. chevguy
Thanks guys,it is all gone now.A dose of salt, minimal feed and up on the temp and a couple of good water changes seems to of done the trick, for now anyway.
