Matty
Over the last week I have been refurbishing my display tank. After saying "I'll never get white rocks because it makes it easier to see the poo" I decided to put white rocks in (calcium carbonate) . The poo issue so far has not been a problem (after 4-5 days) Wow, what a difference it makes on the fish, both to look at and their characters. Plus the actinic light makes it look awesome at night. The missus told me to take out the floating log, and she's probably right, but I've become so attached, after all, it's been floating for over 3 years, plus the fish love swimming around it and hiding inside it. I'm going for the "less is more" approach , plus being viewed from both sides, it makes it easier. Is that bassalt rock you have in there ? Not sure, it's just those rocks from the side of the road, you know, the ones they make storm water drains with.
BaZ
Yes I recognise that type of rock. They also make railway ballast from it I think it's bassalt but I am not 100% sure.

Ash
I agree with all points about the simple elegance of it, but I have to buck the trend & say leave the log in!
