Bruce
I have an empty 2ftx1ftx1ft and I was gonna put a pair of convicts in it. I have never kept them before and just had a few questions. Are they breeding size at around 3cm? Do females have an orange belly and males not? What do they need to spawn on? Will they do it on rocks? Hoddz
Hey mate my convicts were in a two fter by themselves and all they had was good filtration and a pot turned on its side and they bred at about 1-2 inches every three weeks. These fish are very easy to look after and breed like rabbits. All you need is i m and 1 f then just add a pot and water
Bruce
I've got an upturned plate so that should be fine. How much fry did they produce at that age? Bruce
Ash
50 or so when that young, maybe 100.
D6C1
But in a 2 foot, not many survive. they tend to eat each other. And the parents will eat them, untill they get more experienced.
Ash
well if you took them out as guppy sized free swimmers & raised them elsewhere or fed them off, that's about the numbers you'd get. left to their own devices probably zero, depending on cover I guess
Bruce
They laid eggs 2 days ago, there is about 40 and they all look fine. How long until they hatch? Bruce
D6C1
Normally mine take 3 - 4 days. If this is their first batch, dont expect too much to stay alive. They will most probably eat them. I would let them carry on with it, and with time they will get enough experience NOT to eat them anymore. Mine raise their fry now :-)
Bruce
I'm not too bothered if they get eaten. I was probably gonna use the fry mostly for food anyway Bruce
