hoges
Last week my boyfriend's convict pair had their first batch of babies. Since the eggs hatched the female convict has been extremely violent towards the male (ripped his tail and fins, bitten his lip and some scale damage). This morning when he turned the light on he noticed a lighter patch on the male's head between his hump and his head. As the day has gone on this pale patch has become bigger and more swollen. It now looks quite mucsy almost like a big blister. His general health has decreased incredibly rapidly - he's now just resting sideways on a rock trying to keep out of the female's way. Any suggestions on what could be the problem or how we can save him? Thanks in Advanced!!
anchar
Hi hoges, Isolate him immediately (use a fry saver or similar) otherwise she will bash him till he dies. Try some melafix and/or rock salt to clear up the wound. Good luck. merjo
hoges
how much rock salt would u recommend???
anchar
If he is isolated use about 2 teaspoons per 10 litres. The melafix is a far better medication prospect - the salt may help a little. merjo
hoges
He's been seperated for 2 days now, with a combination of melafix and salt. He's not looking any better infact he's looking far worse The blister on his head looks close to explosion and his top lip is now about 4 times its normal size. We're really worried about him and don't think he will live much longer. Any other suggestions for anything else that we can try?
anchar
Sorry hoges, can't think of anything else. Sometimes medicating fish for undefined causes is "best guess". Even when you can be sure of the cause, the symptons don't always clear up(even with the "right" treatment). It is pointless (IME) to add a cocktial of medications to an aquarium in the vain hope of hitting the jackpot. Hopefully some one else can be of more assistance. merjo
