What would be better to use

if it's a std 4'er a 200w will do the job going by the 1w/1l rule of thumb

That said, a 300w will do the job & not be on as long doing it, though if it sticks on it'll cook your fish in less time.

have I helped or just confused you?

I'm setting a 4x14(W)x18(H) up at the moment.

The plan is to use two 200W heaters in the winter, and take one out during the summer. I'm going with 200W, because I already have one.

Otherwise, I'd probably go for 2x100W.

Hey

No, no ash you have not confused me mate. Yes i am deciding on which wattage to go with. They are standard 4fts (200L). So yes going by the 1W per 1L it should do it fine should it not?

Cheers

ive got 300's in my 4 footers ,as toufic said being bigger they stay on for a shorter period and therefore cycle faster therefore less likely to stick on(if that makes sense) although ive had 2 aqua one heaters that have failed stuck off which is safer, i now get in the habit of putting the back of my hand against the tank when feeding

I use eheim Jager running my 6x2x2! Love it. Even at the other end of the tank, its still exactly what I set the temp to be!

The other that lives up to the job for me is a 200W aqua clear.
