codyg
Hey, i recently got 3 full grown BN, and they are in a 2 ft tank, when i got them they were the usual dark brown, but now they seem to be getting paler. But it's weird because sometimes they are usual color and other times they are not. What could be the cause of this? And how can i stop it happening, cause i dont want them to die
D6C1
Catfish go pale colour when they are out in the open or when scared. Try adding a few cakes for them to hide in or dim the lights.

wui39
Can I have a cake too???? Are the fish males or females or a mix? If they are both males they could be fighting hence the colour loss.

fman
My sailfin pleco does the same thing. If I move the decor around in the tank, he pales off for an hour or two until he feels safe, then the he goes back to his normal colour. Has anyone else noticed the mouth of their bristlenose - when they eat cucumber, it goes dark - like black lipstick! Frank

Alan
Bristle nose catfish are like any other bottom dwelling flat fish,,,,,,,flathead, place, sole, or any other. They change colour to suit the background, conditions or their mood. You can have 20 mature fish in the same tank, and every one of them a different colour pattern. Alan.
