YeW
Hi - This is a "jumpy" species. Make sure they have some cover and the holes in your lids are well filled in!
prince
when i add a different species to the tank they move to one side of the tank and are scared of them why?
Colfish
Hi - This is a "jumpy" species. Make sure they have some cover because they are not used to anything else in the tank with them. give them some time to settle down. how many and what size dimis do you have in a 2ft tank
prince
i have about 20 of them they are still small around 5cm
slinky
maybe the water parameters are slightly off. ive noticed in my tanks, the cichlids become skittish when the ph is abit off (cause i dont have a buffer substrate and i have driftwood in some of the tanks), and when i increase the ph, they are fine the next day. or maybe they are just abit crowded. and how long have u had the dimis for. dobbin4
Maybe u should move your 20 x 5cm dimi to a larger tank. 2ft way to small for these fish, not even thinking about the other fish u are adding. John
prince
what is the best method to transfer these fish to a different tank?
slinky
transfer most of the water of the 2ft into the new tank, that would limit the shock on the dimis, in my oppinion (less changes in the water chemistry).
darkmuncan
i agree, take the top 2/3's of water, as if you start taking the bottom water you might get crap like sediment and waste (think a cup of coffee - nobody likes the last bit) i dont really know, but that makes sense to me... gl
prince
i might transfer them to a 4x2x2 tank how should i transfer them?
Burek
well if your 4x2 is running, then just catch them and put em in!
slinky
yeah, i dont think there is gonna be enough water in that 2ft to even fill 1/4 of the 4ft. just make sure the temp and the ph aint to different. if the ph and temp aint to different, just do a straight transfer, dont worry about the whole let them float in a bowl thing, that would just stress them even more. only do a straight transfer if the ph and temp of both tanks are similar.
