heavy lid for silver aro

Willy

Recommended Posts

hey guys my aro is now 30cm,

my question is: how heavy should lid be so he wont jump out, when his fully grown.

was thinking of putting 1Litre water bottles on top of all my 6mm lids.

people say put sandbags but then light wont shine through tank as good

but i dont know if this is too heavy for my tank.

i also have a hood, but one of my friends aro jumped up and broke the lid, then lid fell on aro head and bled to death

someone who ownes one of these fish at fully grown, show us how u do it

I have 10mm glass lids and my aro is now almost 80cm. I drilled a 25mm hole so I could feed through without having to open/close heavy lids daily and also glued some of the protective plastic tank corners on the lids to stop them chipping when dropping heavy lids off and on. Perhaps some sliding lids if I had the chanc to redo my lids totally.

how better is shrimps compared to prawns?

are woodies and earthworms ok, i've even heard people feed all kinds of seafood like musscles, squid etc, wat u think about this?

i have 8 footx2x70cmH with aro30cm and fronnies 5-10cm x 5, should i still do water changes once a week or should i do once a month? % of water change?

im runnning 1500L/H eheim cf and a 2000L/H internal filter.

how often should i clean out filter and cf?

well you just cannot beat feeding your arowana

hikari food sticks as a must!

krill if you can get it offcourse!

shrimp as it is smaller than prawn

crickets

meal worm

hikari food sticks will be rejected at first, but your arowana will end up loving hikari clap.gif

persist & dont give in,you may have to starve your arowana but he will come through with dramatic results!!

cheers

i've tried starving it for 3 days and i gave up, i did this twice already.

he eats it when i dip pallet in prawn which give a bit of flavour other than that when i feed him pallet alone he doesn't eat.

so now i just shove heaps in prawn.

when aro is huge say 60cm or bigger would aro even eat pallets?

wouldn,t it cost too much in future when its 3ft long to feed pallets anyway?

sounds like your silver aro has trained you johnwilly clap.gif

but thats ok mate whatever works is ok.

my arowana food sticks cost me $27 for 250g

for 1 silver arowana $27 every 3 to 4 months hhhmmm

a great diet but also cheaper in the long run!

cheers

how big is your aro?

wouldn't a 3ft aro eat all that in one go?

cause one time i saw a 3ft long aro in a shop in brisane and it looked huge, so huge i'd think he can eat massive amounts.

the fishkeeper fed him a mouse once and i couldn't believe how hard he jumped and hit the hood, it felt like the tank was going to explode. best fish feeding i ever saw. the mouse was gone in a matter of seconds.

hi

the heavier the lid the better. my friends got about 4 silvers a black and 2 asians in a tank. now their always fighting and a silver that was.. about a foot 1/2 long jumped out of the tank breaking the coverglass. he had a 24ml think glass top (2x12ml) and the aro still broke it.. killed itself in the process but broke it non the less.

hi player,

unbelievable 24ml thick glass and it still lifted it and broke it!

what killed the aro, was it the glass falling on it or smashing his head too hard on glass?

did the tank have a hood?

how on earth are we going to keep aro alive when it can do something like that
