  1. You could use Poret foam in the corner to cover you heater and water pickup. https://fish2water.com/corner-filter-hmfs.php I've used these filters in my tanks for 6 years now and never had to clean them and they do help to create a cleaner looking tank. It also means that for tanks which have canister filter I remove all the foam and add matrix to the filter trays.
  2. Its also rather concerning when you read something like this: Mycobacteriosis Fish Tuberculosis I did not know that high KH would help, I have been keeping my Cichlid at above 10 GH but keeping the KH high has been ready hard.

    My Tanks

After keeping a 160L Goldfish tank for 20 years and having had a disease which slowly killed everything. I decided to up my game and have put together a 500L tank with a 160L sump for African Cichlid's (Early 2015). This turned in to a rack which is 300L and a four foot 200L tank end the end of the year. I hope these photos will be a record of my time with these fish. Mike

Its been Seven days and I've seen the spikes of ammonia and NO2 and after a water change NO3 is now below 5. I added a three Anubias plants to day along with two Common Bristlenose, I will wait at least 5 more days before removing the Goldfish and added any new fish. Got the top but still using the old fitting, have a very cheap LED fitting on order will use that until I decided on a more permanant solution. I now need help deciding on how many and what species of Malawi Cichlids to add.

    New tank Setup

    From the album: My Tanks

Well my new tank is installed, its 1600x500x500 with a sump which is 1400x400x400, my plan is to have Lake Malawi Cichlids. Its missing a top and the light is a 15 year old 4" fitting with a T5, I have a crushed coral base with rocks and one large peice of drift wood. I'm 100% new to Cichlids but have keep Goldfish for over 15 years. (close to 25 I think) Noise is an issue but I have ideas how to fix that. I've talked to a number of shop reps and recommendation go both way on this but I've added a few Goldfish to speed up the cycling of the tank Mike
