Wash it again, just to be sure.5. Add to tank.6. Sarah Posted December 26, 2003 Share Posted December 26, 2003 AymenzRiver sand like Yew said will not raise your ph and neither will it maintain your ph , you need to add either a bag of coral in your filter or some oyster shells in your tank to buffer the water or just buy some buffering salts. If you want to use substrate that buffers your water then you have to use either coral sand , marble dust or A1Quartzt , there are also have substrates that buffer your water none of which are like beach sand .
