Substrate: Where to find (005)

Recommended Posts

hey guys....

i was wondering if someone can just go to the beach and pick up some sand from there and then use it in the tank.....

what's the procedure of cleaning it and then make it ready for the tank ????

if it's illegal... is there any places that sells these type ?????

i don't want any coral sand neither crushed marbles........

finally would the beach sand maintain the PH level like the coral sand ??

thx in adv..

Hi -

Here's a step by step guide:

1. Buy some sand from Bunnings (Washed River sand)

2. Wash it.

3. Wash it again.

4. Wash it again, just to be sure.

5. Add to tank.

6. Either use buffers & salts or a big bag of crushed shells (oyster shells are fine) in your canister or sump.

River sand like Yew said will not raise your ph and neither will it maintain your ph , you need to add either a bag of coral in your filter or some oyster shells in your tank to buffer the water or just buy some buffering salts. If you want to use substrate that buffers your water then you have to use either coral sand , marble dust or A1Quartzt , there are also have substrates that buffer your water none of which are like beach sand .
