Chuckmeister
My general rule for sumps is to measure the place you want to put it and put in the biggest sump that will fit. Even if you cant fill it with media at the time you still have space to add in the future. For the first 2 I'd probably put on a 4x18 sump and fill any other space with 2 foot fry tanks and run the fry tanks of air filters (I assume they will be at ground level)And good luck with the fish room. All this talk makes me think about setting up another
Link2Hell
Paulthe one thing you have to take into account with a sump is power outageshave enough room above your plates so it doesn't overflow from the backflush of a power failure
yanke
yes I knowthat's the thing I don't want it to overflow when the power go's outor when I have to turn it off to clean it outI like to put 4 of the tanks on one sumpI can get a sump that's 120x40x40 it has 2 spinning arms to itbut maxed out it will hold about 190L.I am having holes drilled in the back top about 10mm downif I am doing right that's about 180L. for the 4 tanks when offthat's not counting the water in the sump when its runningthe sump it going to cost about $800 with all the stuff I need for the in sideif it didn't cost so much I put 2 tanks on 1 sump but then ill need 4 sumpsso I am trying to keep the cost downwith the tanks and the racking and the sumps its going to be about $5000to set it all up(the wife will not be happy with that) lolbut then its my money that I have saved up
Chuckmeister
have you considered putting in side drop filters. You lose a little real estate inside the tank but you can run the whole lot of your tanks on an air pump. It solves your return water issue. it isolates each tank in case you ever have a tank crash or water problems. Easy quarantine.Cheap to run. And you would get all your tanks done for 800 bucks and have change left over.It also gives you room on the ground level to put fry tanks or something because once you start breeding you'll need it
