Feeding Africans cherry shrimp?

Hey has or does anyone out there feed there african cichlids red cherry shrimp or any other kind of easily bread food source?

I know they are mostly herbivores but is shrimp good weekly? Bi-weekly/monthly? Or just not at all? Thanks

depends on the species but seeing as they are "mostly herbivores"

you can try them on shrimp in small qty each couple of weeks

see how it goes with a small test feed

in the wild they will pick up inverts while grazing ........ just remember

moderation is the key

Hi yeah I agree - depends on the species. Mbuna are alga grazers so not that important to supplement with shrimp.

But the species I keep are piscivores - the large predator haps from malawi that need a larger amount of protein in their diet. As such, to be in top condition, they need some live food now and then (e.g. cherry shrimp is perfect).

Even the micro-predators & sand sifters like C. Moorii, lethrinops, placdiochromis etc would sift the sand for crustaceans such as these so they would form part of their diet.
