Lepperfish
Hey guys, how much shell grit will I need for my 4x2 feet tank? 3, 15kg bags of gravel was perfect and gave me about 2 inches of gravel throughout the whole tank.. Would about 8kgs of shell grit be enough or too much?

John McCormick
I would think that that 8kg would be far more than needed. Not sure if there are any guidlines on quantities to be added. In the past I have just added several handfulls seems to work fine. Maybe someone else has a better method of determining quantities. John. Citypainter
I put 2kg in my 8ft tank 3 years ago and my ph has been balanced ever since. Occaisionally I have buffered the water with salt and Bi carb but thats another thread altogether. I hope that helps.

Stuart74
10kg + 45kg's of gravel maybe you need a 4x3x2 to give the fish some room to swim Just to throw a spanner in the works i usually never try to put the shell grit into the tank rather put it in the filter HTH Stuart
Lepperfish
Its only about 2 inch deep all round.. I have fine gravel, not the usual coarse gravel..
