stagfest
Over the weekend, after a water change, i noticed that my electric blue female was holding a big mouthfull, bot the male and female havn't coloured up yet, so it was a surprise to me!! The hongi in the same tank, just spat a mouthfull only days ago... Now what i was thinking was that the cold water ( i got lazy the last couple of buckets and just put cold wayer in there ), actually helped them spawn??? Has anyone else noticed this... novafishy
a cool water change often triggers spawning behaviours. this probs works with most fish i would think...
phatoscarlover
Hey stag, Nova fishy is right, it is pretty common that a cool water change can help trigger spawning. IMO it more applies to americans than africans but it works both ways. HTH Cheers Andy *edit* PS Congrats on the spawn!
Guest Gutty
Please don't think that every time you give them a cold water hit they will spawn. They won't. I know of one person that realised this, then proceeded to give his fish ich by dropping the temp too much when it didn't work second time around. stagfest
thanks guys, yeh i was very carefull when putting the cold water in checking the temp didn't move too much...are there other thing you could do to promote breeding?
Guest Gutty
Things like brine shrimp and blood worms, basicly any good food that isn't on the daily menu will also encourage your fish to breed. But again, don't go over baord.
stagfest
hmmmm i'll have t try that... At what age do electric blues start to colour up? And at what age would you consider them full grown? I'm getting worried, mine are about 5 months already...
