G'day Yew

Off the top of my head,

S. eupterus

S. petricola

S. multipunctatus

S. nigriventris

Ummm I think all models deserve a small break between photographic shots :(

All of the species will be breedable in a large enough system. The problems that the synos find is that they are not keep in the groups required for breeding. This is mainly due to their large size as adults. It takes a fairly dedicated hobbyist to house a decent group of S. decorus or any others of the large synos.

I think though as they become more available you'll hear more and more about them having been breed. There was a recent report by a Perth hobbyist of his S. shoutedeni spawning.

As to the conditions that you need, look to their biotype and the tricks you use with your cichlids. Appropriate water conditions (current, pH, etc), food, ratios of males to females, photoperiod, tank depth, surface area, etc.

And then you just need to be on the ball.

It would be interesting to here of any other natural spawnings of synos in Australia other than S. multipunctus, S. eupterus, S. petricola and S. shoutedeni. I know I'm working on S. decorus, S. eupterus and S. njassae.

YeW, if your interested the Scot-cat page. (Specialising in catfish from all around the world :D ) has an article on the breeding of a number of species of Synodontis.

Unfortunately i cant remember the site but if you use Google and type 'Scot Cat' it should come up. From there go to articles --> Breeding Articles etc etc.
