zerospel
Hey guys, I read an article about using No Salt as potassium supplement, now since it was an american article Im not sure if their stuff are actually the same as the no salt we got here. Here is the contents of the one Ive got: Potassium, chloride, ammonium, phosphate, calcium, magnesium, sodium. What do you think? safe to use? It would be good if I could use this instead of seachems potassium Cheers
PHL
With Ammonium! Definitely not if you are keeping live fish. If it's potassium you need, just get some potassium nitrate from fertilizer people; used to be very cheap.
jaz1986
and then you will be bunging in nitrate which is almost as bad as the ammonium... the best two bets would be potassium chloride, plus tap water conditioner in a bucket, or small amounts of sulphate of potash (only in well ventilated areas... this produces hydrogen sulfide in low oxygen situations aka rotten egg gas)
PHL
Nitrate isn't a big problem for fish compared to ammonia; in my planted tank, I need to add nitrate once a while, or my plants starts to yellow.
