Adjustments to kH

Hi,

TO adjust the kH of the tank as im finind over the year since this drought the kH in my area has dropped from around 4 to now 2 which is too loe for my likings of injecting CO2 meaning im not getting ym desired pH.

Im aiming for a ph around 6.8 - 6.9 and kH of 4 giving me a Co2 of about 17ppm.

Just wondering if its ok to use Sodium Bicarbonate to the water change water to raise the kH.

Cheers

Rob.

Alternatively, you could use the age old natural way of adjusting your KH by adding Coral Chips! I find adding Baking Powder aka Sodium Bicarbonate is a messy process and often too little or too much is added!

Perhaps you would like to try out the coral chips method?

yeah to expand on my previous answer.....if you measure out the sodium bicarbonate accurately, and add it to say 20L of makeup water then it is fine. Easiest way is to make up say a 2L stock solution and dose 5-10mL every 20L water change from that.

I have tried using coral/shell grit before but have found kH can actually rise too high if you are also dosing CO2.
