Canberra Alex
hi all, i have just finished cycleing my 3x2x2.5 tank to setup for it will be heavly planted with lotts of caves pots and driftwoods creations. Questions: Wat other fish can i have in the tank that will not disrupt the BNs? Is it possable to breed peppermints and standards in the same tank? Wat other fish can i breed in the same tank? i have keep and breed many africans cichlids (amongst other fish) and are over these looking for something different to keep with the BN. all comments and criticisium tanken, Just dont pick on my spelling!!! Alan
Hey Alex, My bristle nose tanks are bristle nose tanks, but I do grow on guppies along with them as they are another thing I fool about with (trying to breed different colour varieties). Even guppies, harmless as they are, will eat any newly hatched bristle nose fry if they happen to get kicked out of dad's cave before they are ready. Just about any other fish are dead set certs to eat even free swimming B/N particularly cichlids. As for peppermints? I don't think so! their temperature requirements are quite different. My bristles are in full swing at the moment at 20*C. have a look at http://p204.ezboard.com/fperthcichlidsocie...picID=394.topic Peppermints need it a bit warmer. about 26*C , have alook at http://p204.ezboard.com/fperthcichlidsocietyfrm5 the first pinned post. Canberra Alex
i would be a waist to have such a big tank with just BN and plants. Would i be better off putting them in my 2x1.5x1 alone and move my lump heads?
Alan
Waste of a tank ??? Depends on you I quess. I have four 4x2x2 with just bristle nose, one 4x2x2 just peppermints and one 4x2x2 just orange spot bristlenose. Depends how many fish you want to breed with. I set up my bristle colonies with 15 females and 5 males. Alan

Alan I always thought bristlenose liked it around 25c? Or 72-80f.

Alan
Dyce, I have had bristles breed from 18*C to 28*C. the higher the temperature the less inclined they are. A bove 28C and they are uncomfortable and often mine shut down breeding activity completely in summer. If you clicked on the that link;- http://p204.ezboard.com/fperthcichlidsocie...picID=394.topic I have listed the temp, pH etc., just illustrates how prolific they are at the lower temps. There are spawnings in all the other bristle tanks as well at the moment. All the same temperature. Alan
