DREMEN
I have 10kgs of shell grit? And I was going to use river sand in my new cichlid tank. What do you think they shell grit would look like mixed with the river sand? Should I do it? Or just leave it as plain river sand?

Phenomena
Hi, I've mixed about 100kg sand with just 1kg shellgrit, it makes the tank looks dirty but more natural somehow. Also the shellgrit creates air pockets. Why not try a small amount and see whether you like it. Otherwise there's no turning back unless you're prepared to separate them... ... Gigitt
I wouldn't mix it.. I think one or the other. But won't the cichlids mix it for you with all that diging! If you need to separate it - use a cheap sieve. Sand falls through and shell grit left in sieve.
YeW
DREMEN - You can certainly mix it... I have tanks with the two in and it looks fine. HOWEVER, if you ever want to keep soft water fish in the tank I wouldn't recommend it. Instead chuck a few dozen oyster shells in a stocking and put it in your sump/filter. Alternatively you can use buffers/salts.
