catalyst
I have a Female Protomelas taeniolatus holding and she has been for about 3 weeks (when she opens her mouth you see fry) but in the last 2 days he gills have become quite red, This is her first time. Is this normal? Should I catch her and strip the fry? Any other suggestions are also welcome!

Ben
Strip her. I have a yellow that has been holding so long she is getting hollow belly. I have to strip her in the next day or so, when I get time.
catalyst
Ok so how do i get her to release the fry?
Ben
I catch the female to be striped and place her in an ice-cream container. I then pick her up gently and with a toothpick, match or bread tag open her mouth under water. The fry will normally swim out bar one or two. If you hold her there long enough with there mouth open she will eventually spit out the fry.Good luck.
