parrdog Posted May 7, 2004 Share Posted May 7, 2004 G'day All, I read an article on algae which said that the first algae you get in your tank is the brown type. I have recently set up a Tropheus tank and have been encouraging algae growth. I have a 5ft tank that has two 48 inch Aquastar globes. I have been noticing that the majority of algae I'm getting is the brown stuff. My question is that will I be getting the green algae growing later on since the brown stuff grows first or do I need to do certain things to encourage green algae growth. If I will be expecting green growth, how long does it take? By the way my tank is run by two canisters and a 2000l/h power head. Ammonia and Nitrite are non-existent, Nitrate is 5mg/l, temp is 26, kH is 15, pH is 8.5. Lights are on 7am to 9pm. Thank you for your help, Jamie.
