Pruning Stem plants

Hi,

I have wisteria (hygrophilia difformis) and Ambulia in my tank and was just wondering the best way to prune them when they get to big?. ATM i just cut the amublia off very low that way they grow back without the placement of the cut being seen. I havent done the wisteria yet so just wanted to know if i prune the same way as the amublia or if there is another betetr technique to use?

thanx

Prune just above the axial bud, ie the bud just at the junction of stem and leaf. If you keep cutting the upright stem you can encourage the plant to take a more bushy growth pattern, as it will shoot out to the side from these buds.

Try a few different things, the hygro will take pretty much whatever you hand it, so see what works best.

The generally accepted way to prune Ambulia is to rip it out, shorten it, and replant. Personally I just rip them out and toss them out; they grow like weeds in my tank, and within a week or two, are back (except the last time when I removed most of them).
