myster619
What brand do you guys use and recommend? What is the hatch rate? How much do you pay for it? Do you still grow them after a few days or start over again? How and why? Brine shrimp or Daphnia? Why?
Noddy65
Hi Myster619I buy mine through Age of Aquariums....good hatch rateYou'll have to check out their website for prices...cant remember off the top of my head...I usually get the 500 gm ish tin.I feed mine as baby brine shrimp....usually feed within one to two days of hatching...my understanding is that the nutritional value is highest then...for me its just not worth the hassle of trying to grow them on....too many fish, too many fish tanks, too many children at home...not enough time in the day etc etcI feed baby brine shrimp as I want SMALL, moving and good nutrition food.....I've heard/read about people having real issues hatching them...it seems to be when people buy small packets from the local big chain stores etc....buying from your local fish shop or online (high turnover) means that the eggs are fresher, have been stored better ( I keep my large tins in the fridge) and then have a higher hatch rate.I have MUCH higher hatch rate if I make a fresh batch every day...if you don't use a fresh batch of water or clean the containers well...the background contamination seems to reduce the hatch rate significantly. Its actually really simple and easy and I produce enough BBS for around 50 tanks each day (feeding twice a day) and it takes me around 5 minutes each day to get stuff prepared...easy..Mike
Foti
Okay mike I know your busy but I think you need to put together "start" a thread / article with some pics of your bbs set up rotationI've only used 2lt coke bottles with a valve on the lid I used to employ the lt of water in the tank but quickly relised that the egg shells stuck on the glassSo read that slowing the water to rest split everything up un hatched eggs on bottom live bbs in middle hatched shells float on top ! markfnq
Agree Foti it would be good to see how others go about it .I am the same as you I use the 2 litre bottle method . Salt and a pinch of bi carb although I get a bit reluctant to feed anything thats not moving so I try to separate using a shallow tray covered with a light at one end , after 10 or so minutes they move towards the light then I feed with a turkey baster. myster619
Didn't know they move towards the light.I am thinking of sticking those cut bottles inside the tank so I would not need external heater.

myster619
When you put the airtube through the hole in the lid does that mean there is no gas exchange other than the air going in through the tube? This is what I am doing now, using the heat of the aquarium to speed up the process. But the whole point of the thread was to get an idea of what brand eggs members here have had success with. chorrylan
I buy brine shrimp eggs from these guys: http://www.primo.net.au/?page=catlist&id=1They're aquaculture suppliers so 1) the stock will generally be fresher than anywhere else you can source from and will have been kept in refrigerated storage, 2) they supply to people who are in this as a business so they care and know about even tiny differences in hatch rates, temp requirements etc between batchesHatching is with one of these:http://www.jehmco.com/BSHL3BW_10045a-500p.jpgbought from http://www.jehmco.com/html/brine_shrimp_hatcheries.html

Ged
I tried to use an xml file to allow the the playing MP4 videos (Photobucket) directly on the forum but haven't solved the coding. I sorted out the playing of your Facebook video directly in the post. You just copy the url up to the last number in the URL and then paste the url between
