Mpimbwe Pete
Many years ago had some splendid "Hap.Similis". In those days everything seemed to belong to the Haplochromis family . Are they now the "Red Empress" Protomelas taeniolatus? or the "fenustratus?" There is not much mention of them ,Have they been lost to the hobby in Australia ? firthy13
wouldnt be Protomelas Similis would it?http://postfiles3.naver.net/20100323_274/diznwkrkd_1269304762508p06gQ_jpg/42_diznwkrkd.jpg?type=w2this is why it is so important for everyone to try and embrace scientific names. i understand years ago everything was either haplochromis or pseudotropheus. but now that everything has been classified and the amount of information we have access to makes it a lot easier to learn them and get positive identifications. Mpimbwe Pete
OK if its Protomelas Similis is this species still available here ? Been told for years by retail aquariums that they can't get them any more .Several people told me they were "lost to the hobby in Australia". firthy13
Nope P similis are regularly available since they have been supported by the NSWCS. Put a post up in the classified section. You will get a few hits im sure.
