shannon
I currently am running a sump and smaller canister on my 5x2x2 but want to change to an fx5. Would I need to run the original two filters when I first put the fluval in? or would it be ok to shut them both down?
firthy13
you will need to run the fx5 along with the 2 current filter for a month or so to allow the bacteria to colonize in the new filter before you remove the old ones. if you dont do this, your tank will cycle again and produce a large ammonia & nitrite spike, this will more offen then not kill your fish. the other option is to transfer the media from the two currently running filters to the fx5. shannon
Yeah I thought that was the case. What if I switch off the smaller canister while still running the sump? Along with the fx5
~matt~
if you just put all the media from the sump and small filter into the fx5 it will be fine straight away
