Kartoon
Hi AllI have 5 hongi (1M 4F) and 5 xmas fulu (1M 4F) in a tank together. I noticed last week that a hongi and a fulu are holding. My first Cichlid spawn EVER!!!I was wondering should I separate them? could they have cross breed? and how long will they hold for? Thanks for the help.Cheers
Ged
Congratulation on the spawnsBoth species should hold for 18-20 days. I would separate them into fry savers around day 18 so they can spit naturally. I wouldn't expect these to cross breed.
Kartoon
Sweet thanks for the info Ged. I might put them into a fry saver soon.Cheers
bowdy
I would say there is a big chance of the fry being hybrid and think it would be irresponsible to raise these fry for sale. Cheers
Kartoon
Hi GuysJust checking in havent been around to much. Unfortunatly nothing arouse from this spawn. But just to clarify can these 2 species cross breed or not?Cheers
TimB
Yes, it is possible for these fish to crossbreed, but it would be unlikely for them to because you have enough females per males of each species. I have 6 Pseudotropheus acei 'ngara' (2m 4f) in a 6ft mixed malawi tank with alot of other species and I have pure acei fry no problem. As long as they don't look the same or aren't of the same species you should be fine.
